Ministry Newsletter
December 2007 and January
2008
Dear friends and family,
We did not send out a
December newsletter at the end of the month, because we were home visiting during
that time. As always, we appreciate
everyone taking such good care of us while we were home. It was wonderful to be home for the holidays
this year. Here are a few pictures of
Ann Marie and her cousins.

Chester and Noelia Ritchie were home in Belize during Christmastime. While they were home, Noelia worked with
Minister Rodwell Furgeson to get the land leased in
the name of the Baptist Association. On
January 9th, we had a groundbreaking at the new property! After months and months of waiting for this
day, Jeff and I were very excited to see it happen. There was a second ceremony on February 3rd
to include the Gordon family (who gave the property to the association) and the
Southern Region Churches.

First Ceremony with Minister Rodwell Furgeson Alabama Team, Local Pastors, and Diana Gordon
The team from Alabama will start construction Monday, February 4th. They will pour the foundation for the first buildings. The first four buildings to be built will be
a dorm to house a team of 50, the dining hall, chapel, and caretakers
residence. The property has been named
the Rodney Gordon Christian Development Center.
For those of you interested
in politics, Belize is also having elections this year.
Said Musa, the Prime Minister of Belize for the last 10 years, called
for elections on January 7th and requested The National Assembly be
dissolved which in essence shut down the government. The Governor General is in control until the
elections. The Governor General, the
Honorable Corville Young, was appointed by Her Majesty,
the Queen of England. The voters of Belize will elect a new Prime Minister as well as other
positions on February 7, 2008.
Belize is a very young country. It has only been independent of Britain for 26 years.
Said Musa is only the third man to ever hold the office of Prime
Minister in Belize. A local poll predicted the UDP
to win by a slim margin. Based on that, it
has been said over and over again in the media that this election could be the
turning point in Belize’s history.
The two main parties in Belize are the People’s United Party (PUP) and the United
Democratic Party (UDP). The ruling party
for the last 10 years has been the PUP.
There are thousands of flags flying all over the country for each
party. The PUP has blue and white flags
and the UDP usually has red and white flags.
No donkeys and elephants here!
Hand painted signs are at many houses showing support for the parties.

On a lighter note Ana, Jocelyn, and Norma
all received high marks on their first semester report cards. They are the young ladies from the village going
to the new high school. Ana was first in
her class! We are so proud of the girls
and their accomplishments!
Please continue to pray. The devil has tried
in so many ways to hinder if not destroy the work here in Belize. Pray that not only will the work continue but that countless lives
will be brought to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ!
In Christ,
Jeff, Tiffany, and Ann Marie
